Before adequate refrigeration of seafood, fish were pickled in salt.
I still like to get my hands on salted mullet once and a while. A couple of those, a baked sweet potato, slaw, hush puppies, and sweetened iced tea is a treat!

didn't our forefathers live off of salt pork for months at a time? Maybe they just sweated it out with all the hard work they use to do - Compared to most people these days they did more in 1 day than most of us do in a week.

I probably consume enough salt per year to un-freeze the driveway. Can't get enough of it. My blood pressure is 106/58, pulse is 60.
