WASHINGTON (AP) A hearing will be held in Washington next week on the Hawaiian recognition bill introduced in the U-S Congress late last month.
Governor Lingle is among those who will testify before the Senate Indian Affairs Committee on March 1st. Lingle will be in Washington for a meeting of the National Governors Association, which starts Saturday.
The bill, also known as the Akaka bill, would formally recognize Native Hawaiians as an indigenous people in the same way that the U-S recognizes American Indians and Native Alaskans.
The legislation passed the House last year, but ran into roadblocks in the Senate over concerns from some senators that the bill would sanction race-based preferences.
The bill was reintroduced by Senator Daniel Akaka, and is known as the Akaka bill.
This is getting out of hand..I am a male-american..can I get some special attention..(preferably from a good looking female-american..)
I am writing my senator, I'm sure to no avail (Akaka & Inouye). I also am writing to other senators to express my opinion (not that any of them listen either).
This is something new?
Now we know why wannabe Indian Ward Churchill was invited to speak in Hawaii.
i hear a past Presiden tof NOW is now looking for you.
Maybe there will be some good gambling involved. Worked for California.
Well, I am going to Hawaii in a few weeks, so I will certainlyl give some special attention to the indigenous native women.
