You are hereby encouraged to attend an AA meeting. "Drinking beer only" is something you will hear as a failed attempt to control drinking.

Whilst having the utmost compasion for those who are alcoholic, why should they be dragged into any discussion on alcohol. If I ate some peanut butter would everybody start talking about those with nut allergies? My mother is allergic to vinegar, so let's demonise it.
There is a massive distinction between drinking, and being an alcoholic. I started to drink (in small quantities on special ocassions) somewhere around the age of 13; I've only ever been drunk 2, both times there being extenuating circumstances (not that I'm at all proud of them).
I drink frequently, and vary between gin (with tonic or as dry martini), wine, beer (yes the proper warm stuff), and ocassionally spirits. The point is, that having been raised around alcohol, and having been taught how to drink properly I have never had any dependence on alcohol at all.
Taking a more relaxed attitude to drinking would aid the development of reasonable consumption. Demonising it merely makes youth more inclined to consume alcohol in an illicit manner - which in turn feeds bad consumptive habits.

I was not referring to alcoholics.
The hospitalizations for alcohol are mostly liquor related. I'd like to get the stats. And I know of MANY people who won't drink liquor and will only drink beer, because with liquor it is harder to control your drinking.
Beer- it is easier to pace oneself.

"Drinking beer only" is something you will hear as a failed attempt to control drinking. Well, I know one thing...
There is food value in beer;
but there is no beer value in food.
