bump for later today
I wish some of the American reporters who deplore American Imperialism would do a bit of "mainstream" reporting on China's maritime spread. Freeport Bahamas is now a huge Chinese controlled container port. They contol the ports on both sides of the Panama Canal. I'm sure these are just some of the critical areas where they have taken over.
Americans really have no idea about this development.
We are told of concerns of threats to Taiwan, meanwhile ....
Somewhere down the line,if they don't reform, and change their ways, we're going to have to "do" the Chinese.
As I have been writing since 9/11, they are backstabbers and we should have invaded them first before doing Afghanistan and Iraq. India even offered, literally on 9/12, to be our regional base, but, sadly, stuck in some sentimental memory of better days gone by vis a vis the old Northern Tier, we shunned India and dealt instead with the backstabbers. Big, big mistake. Historians 100 years from now will go to town disecting this blunder.
I'm assuming you meant we should have invaded China first?
If this is true, you are either stupid as hell or just a great comedian.
Pakistan
We had to ally with Pakistan to get to Afghanistan. Having a base in India wouldn't change the fact that we still needed to play nice with General Mushy. We still needed Pakistani airspace.
jk
China only owns 10 % of Hutchinson-Wampoa shipping.
ping-WHOA!
Actually, it is Hutchison-Whampoa, do not confuse us with an Anglisised 'Hutchinson'. I think the name is a ploy to make it sound western.
And Hutchison Whampoa is a Chinese name.

Oh! Those wicked Chinese!
No, Hong Kong based Li Ka-shing, Asia's richest and most influential businessman, owns the conglomerates Hutchinson Whampoa.
Yes, you are correct. I too spelled it wrong. It's spelled "Hutchison" without the "n." Sorry.
Oh, and thank you for the link. I appreciate it.
No apologies needed. I really think the name was delibrately designed to give it an 'Anglo' twist.
That's why I say, "Ah! The wicked Chinese!"
Funding made available, compliments of the US consumer, funneling billions into China's treasury through purchase of their consumer products.
RE: We still needed Pakistani airspace.
Invading Pakistan from our Indian base came would have given us that. We were stupid to maintain our sentimental attachment to a former "Northern Tier" country that had become, and STILL IS, a Red Chinese client.
No, we should have smacked the backstabber, Pakistan. Pakistan went from being a reasonably reliable Northern Tier country to being a ChiCOM client state a long time ago. And they still are.
