At least he's going out with dignity.

It would be especially poetic if it were a loose cannon.

Only Hunter Thompson could get a last request AFTER he died.
I hope they have the foresight to point the cannon at John Denver's house......

FindAGrave reports that his remains have already been scattered on his Colorado property. I happened upon the information...
But seriously, who in the world cares???
To: Cannon6
Amen. Folks put these wacked-out wierdos on a pedestal, like they are better. They're no better than the scum shootin up on the street. Not worth the skin off a working man's teeth. Sorry but I have no use for a miserable cowardly drunk.

Folks put these wacked-out wierdos on a pedestal, like they are better. If you can't tell the difference between a junkie bum and a talented writer like HST (especially his early work), then you are suffering from the inability to value things. It's typically a liberal symptom... the idea that things cannot be valued or that everything is "equivalent."
You don't have to like HST's message (I don't) to recognize that he had talent.

"This guy was nothing but a miserable drunk and drug addict. Who the hell cares."
Well, I do. The guy was much more than you say. Yes, he drank alcohol, sometimes to excess; as do many here, including myself. I believe the drug usage was over-exaggerated, at least during the last half of his life. It was one of those things which enhanced his legend, and he let that be believed for any number of reasons. It's like Robert Johnson; Son House stated that Johnson sold his soul to the devil in order to be the best guitar player on earth. Ridiculous on it's face, but almost every bio I've read on Johnson repeats the story.
Hunter was very conservative in many respects (he loved firearms for one) and is very misunderstood by many on this board.
I'll leave you all with this question: Many here have accused Thompson (maybe not on this particular thread) of being a loony liberal druggie. What true liberal would ask to have his ashes shot out of a cannon? A cannon? Think about it.
