I asked and received permission to post his email. The guy made a mistake, and I think he regrets it. After someone apologizes and makes amends, I have no interest in throwing rocks at them any more.
I'm not telling anyone else what they should think or do. Just my opinion.

It does put him in a better light.

"Asking my attorney to direct any future proceeds from the book to charity and to find the best way to vet these tapes and get them back to the president to whom they belong."
That was the right thing to do.
To: Richard Kimball
Interesting. I would hope that when he says "find the best way to vet these tapes and get them back to the president to whom they belong" he hasn't missed the simple option of just giving all of them to the President. Also, I would be more impressed with his mea culpa if it weren't for the fact that he released the tapes in conjunction with publishing his book. His morality is in doubt, as are the sincerity of his apologies.

I don't know how others viewed the taped portions that were aired but I thought they portrayed W in a relatively positive light. I actually had more respect after hearing the snips that I did. As far as taping someone without their knowledge and then not obtaining permission before airing any of it, well, that's another matter. MTC

Well, directing that the proceeds of the book go to charity...would indeed indicate remorse.
Saying sorry, without penance isn't worth it's salt.

The dude is screwed and tatooed, forever. And, I don't believe him. He could've worked with the Whitehouse, but he went this route?? Even Junior Sample couldn't sell this junker.
Still in all, it was endearing of him to respond personally.. had he only given W the same chance.

Fair enough, Taggart, but some of his promises may eventually be verifiable, so we don't have to take his word for it.

So he made a mistake by taping GWB in confidential phone calls, made a mistake by failing to tell him all this time, and made a mistake by releasing the tapes. And now that he is feeling the heat, he admits he is fallible and it was all a big mistake.
Ooookay.
