Two reasons:

Her husband may be responsible for her condition. If she is able to speak someday, she may incriminate him.

There is likely a large life insurance policy which he can collect on after her death.

There can't be too many other explanations for this situation.

He's already shacked up with kids...so why not just get divorced and grant custody to the parents?

If he divorces her, he can't have a catholic wedding with Jodi.

If he divorces her, he has to share the estate with whoever ends up caring for her(as guardian of her estate).

If he divorces her, she may recover and incriminate him in her "accident"...attempted murder has no Statute of limitations!
