Selleck TV Movie Gets Top Ratings

Conservative actor Tom Selleck, one of NewsMax.com's "Hollywood Heroes," went up against ABC's top-rated "Desperate Housewives" Sunday night and did so well that network officials are said to be talking about turning his show, "Stone Cold," into a TV series or a movie.

According to the New York Post, a whopping 18 million-plus viewers watched the CBS made-for-TV film, which the Post reported starred Selleck as "a gruff, troubled, small-town Massachusetts police chief with a drinking problem and an attachment to his ex-wife who was suddenly faced with a string of murders to solve."

In addition to impressing CBS execs, the film, based on one of a series of novels by Robert B. Parker, drew rave reviews from critics.

While network officials remained mum, industry insiders told the Post that the success of "Stone Cold" could open the door for a series of movies or a TV series starring Selleck.

A CBS spokesman, however, told the Post that the network was impressed with the ratings and the quality of the film but would not discuss what if any plans it had for a future series or a possible series of movies.

Selleck, a staunch backer of President Bush in a town filled with far-left stars and Hollywood moguls, won rave reviews for his stunning performance in a recent TV movie in which he played General Dwight Eisenhower in the days before D-Day.

Old Tom did a crackerjack job as Jesse Stone.

I hope more of those are produced.

Ditto! I really enjoyed the show, and would definitely watch if it became a series.

One of the best TV movies of the decade. I hope they make it into a regular series. I need more...

Quigley's a great, underappreciated movie. There's so much to love about it.

Sorry Selleck's career hasn't gone better; really sorry about the homosexual role in that Kevin Kline movie.

Hmmm... I thought it was lame and predictable, but nothing else was on. The defense attorney showing up at his house and straddling him was stoooopid!

Hey, what do I know. I'm just a produced screenwriter. Which reminds me... got to get back to writing.

don't worry - any decent TV movie with good ratings will eventually be released to DVD.

The movie was great. Selleck was perfect, Mimi Rogers sexy, setting, plot, characters all wonderful. Plus Jesse/Selleck adopts a murder victim's golden retriever. Couldn't look away, it would make a terrific series. Plus Selleck was the executive producer besides starring, so he picked up two paychecks.

He is still a hottie, and he can act. You're right, his job as Eisenhower was great. And he was Richard on Friends, which was a funny role that showed off both his comedic talent and his good looks!
