Hunter S. Thompson's attorney tells the Boston Globe the reporter's suicide had nothing to do with the results of the 2004 election.
Thompson wasn't happy about President Bush's re-election of course.
He compared him unfavourably to Richard Nixon and seemed terrified that the American people might want George W. Bush to be their president.
Thompson predicted that Kerry would beat Bush in November, and feared what the alternative would say about America.
The cynical among us might say it's the first time something bad hasn't been blamed on President Bush.

Oh, I see - he must have bet a lot of money on his election prediction, went broke and became despondent.
I just assumed that he didn't have the manhood to face his old age.
I would be happier if it were because Bush were elected.
Don't really care one way or the other. All I know for sure is a degenerate, alkie and drug addled leftie has checked out.
I think that suicide is a very valid form of "protest" that more commies should use.
It wasn't? (darn)
Or he just wanted to go out like Hemingway, and knew that it would add to his 'legend.'
He was an idget. I read that he was on the phone with his wife and the son was on the other room when he put the gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger. He wanted it that way. Can you be more self absorbed and selfish than that?
Maybe he just couldn't face being wrong one more time.
it was a non-event.
He was a self absorbed ass.
That is my guess also.
Wrong on both counts, I note. But at least he saved the Social Security trust fund a few bucks by checking out early.
Wow, I didnt know his family was in the house..unbeliveable
Personally, I think he was overrated and not even in the same class as Hemingway.
Frankly, I thought he was dead a long time ago.
Call me crazy, but the fact the man was a self-medicating gun nut might be a more likely reason for what happened.
He'd show up at events drunk out of his gourd..I think he had checked out about 25 years ago
