Could she be kidnapped for her safety?
Since its a money issues for her husband really, can she be "bought" from him. Just enough for him to go away?
It appears her husband's motivations to have her murdered go beyond mere money. I believe he also wants her dead because he is the one who caused her injury the night she collapsed. This would be the reason why he refuses any kind of therapeutic treatment for her.
