I will not participate in a typical, open borders, circular argument with you.
It should be simple. Only legal citizens should be able to participate in all that this country offers. That includes jobs, health care, education, driving, etc. Non-citizens (illegals) should not have the same "rights" as citizens.....period. Otherwise, where is the benefit of being an american citizen?
Pretty simple from my point of view.

That would require gaining a conviction.

JURIES HAVE RARELY, IF EVER, CONVICTED PEOPLE FOR HIRING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.

We're back to square one on that. Juries have nullified the laws about hiring illegal immigrants. Even when it's an open-and-shut case, they've acquitted. So, the money won't come from the employers unless you throw the juries out of the mix, and that would open up constitutional questions.

Welfare isn't what America is about at all. It's about freedom and liberty. It isn't about military troops going door to door asking for "papers". It isn't about government forcing employers to pay exorbitant wages to labor union thugs.

No one that I know of is for open borders. Do you know someone? You do know that we haven't had open borders since 1885 don't you?

"And you don't think they will give preference to whatever party did the most to get them citizenship. "

If one party welcomes a particular group to its membership while another political party makes mean spirited hateful statements about them, they will probably join the party that welcomes them.

Do you have any problem with Hispanics being welcome into the Republican Party? I know a lot of the anti-Hispanic posters were angry at Bush appointing an Hispanic attorney general and ambassador to Mexico.

There you go, race baiting again...it's poetry in motion...

BTW, you and your Open Borders buddies have yet to answer the big question. "What is there about the word "ILLEGAL" you don't understand?

You all are wasting your time. The self-serving politicans looking for votes by pandering to the ILLEGALS are going to find themselves VOTED out of office. That's the American way...ain't it great!

No, I don't.
Although, I don't really believe in "African Americans", "Hispanic Americans", etc.
I believe in "Americans" no matter what racial background they come from.

That would require gaining a conviction.

And once again, if the company has a legal alternative that won't require them to go bankrupt I believe there would be many more convictions.

That tagline is great and accurate. Yeah, one of our newest imports in the Dallas area are ex-Mexican army commandos that are in charge of keeping the local dealers in line. A few recent murders have been traced to these nice fellows......you know doing the jobs that Americans won't do.

Did you bother to RTFA?

Or are you just simply being obtuse?

I'll drink to that. Visit a veterans cemetery sometime and pay respects to true Americans.

Here's a great article on the President's proposal. IT pretty much deal with a lot of the canards being used against it.

No, I understand the meaning of the word "Illegal".

Obviously there are others who are being "obtuse" on the FROBL group.

It's a simple question that remains unanswered. What is there about the word "Illegal" that they fail to understand?

It's not a trick question...

[The president's critics believe in] Cutting off illegal immigration [which] would require thousands more men on the border, routine sweeps in every city, roadblocks, roundups, massive deportations....

The president has a better solution. He proposes that we face up to the reality of our growing demand for labor, skilled and unskilled....

...In short, the "solution" the President advocates is: SURRENDER.

Again -- would we and the GOP ever accept this "solution" from a Democratic President??

Grab some popcorn and enjoy delusional rants of "rationale" from the usual FROBL suspects throughout this thread.

Can't we fill the border with land mines and make it a TV reality show?

Number one, the "FROBL" smear is not based on the truth by any stretch of the imagination.

As for your question about "illegal", it is a canard, the reason being explained by Tamar Jacoby inthe article as follows:
"Our immigration system is indeed based on illegality--on a long-standing and all but deliberate mismatch between the size of our yearly quotas and the actual needs of our labor market, particularly at the lower reaches of the job ladder. This mismatch has often been convenient for employers--it provides a docile, disposable foreign labor force--and it has been the norm in agriculture off and on for nearly a hundred years. But in recent decades, new technologies have spurred demand for low-skilled workers in a wide range of other sectors as well, and the public, quite understandably, is beginning to find the hypocrisy intolerable.

"As the president's critics understand, this is a large part of what is driving voters' concerns about immigration. People don't like the idea of 10 to 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States but outside the law. They're appalled that entire American industries--not just agriculture, but hospitality, food processing, construction--operate on the wrong side of the rules, relying on the black market to find the labor they need just to keep their businesses open. The very idea of this second, illegal America is an affront, its practical consequences even more troubling: not just criminal syndicates that thrive on lawlessness, but also the haven it creates for potential terrorists."

You obviously did not read the freakin' article. Why don't you READ THE ARTICLE and then come back to this?

You probably already know this but lurking in the background of all this open border idiocy is the FTAA and if people on this and other forums were smart we should be researching the ramificiations of this new agreement on our borders, legal rights, Constitution, etc. This may be the "big enchilada" Fox and his co-horts across Latin and S. American have been pushing for during the last few years.

Dig enough and I think we'll find there's a whole lot of upset people in Europe furious at their own gov'ts. for signing away their individual country's sovereignty in favor of the EU's own governing apparatus. They've been working on a new EU constitution for a while and thanks to the standard news blackout we have on such issues (MJ, Martha, etc. are far more important) there's very little info available on the new format for Europe. What happens over there will soon be our battle as business interests and their political whores seek to do the same in this hemisphere.

And again, the first post you make is predicated on the false term "FROBL."

Why don't you just be honest and simply point out that nayone who does not join the Malkin-Tancredo "Amen Corner" is who you mean by "FROBL"? Can you muster enough honesty to do that? Or must you lie in order to perpetuate the unacceptable status quo?

One thing I have noticed about liberals/marxists is the tendency for them to write long articles (like this one).
If the Bush plan is so "Nuanced" that it takes someone 6 pages to explain it, that means to me it is a bad idea. If something is logical, it is usually explained easily and it is accepted widely. This is not explained easily or widely accepted because it is not logical. Liberals/marxists use this type of convoluted explanation to distract the reader from using the simple logic that proves it to be a bad idea.

I read the article..yawn.

Can't deal with someone that is foaming at the mouth....as you obviously are.

I do have faith that the majority in this country STILL rule. Guess you would call me naive, but I really don't care what YOU call me..You have a nice day now...
