I wonder, if perhaps the cat found some drugs, as in illegal drugs, in the basement and sniffed or ate some,

Good that you specified illegal drugs, otherwise we would have all assumed you were talking about safe legal drugs that can't harm anyone.

My dog tried to pet him" When your dog starts petting people. It's always a good sign somethings wrong.
I saw that after the other reply to this post and was hoping everyone else would skip that. LOL! Something spell check just doesn;t help with.

Instructions For Giving Your Dog a Pill: 1. Wrap pill in bacon and drop on floor
LOL! My old dog was the type that would eat the bacon and literally spit the pill across the room.

Maybe a stroke or similar medical problem. Sad but necessary killing.

Basement? Eat a bad spider?

My cats loves spiders. Every now and then he gets hold of a bad one. He is sick for a few days. The funny thing is that we know when he had one. His face balls up.

If the poor cat came in contact with straight bleach, as in spilled, or ingested it for any reason, it definitely would feel so bad it could have gone out of it's mind. Also, most of us know that dogs love anti-freeze and that one lick can crystalize a dog's kidneys. But cats like it too. Since it can cost a fortune to even find out what the animal took in, I figger it's easier to control the substances.

Thanks for being careful when you clean the kitchen!

I had trouble figuring that out too. The missing link is

You can post your pictures there and then use the html code.

This is what the guy who helped me said:

the script is easy:
[img src="fullURLofPicHere"] (Don't use the brackets)

you will need to have an online pic-dump from which to source your images.

I use http://www.photobucket.com
it is free, and big enough for my purposes

We used to have lots of geese. They weren't so bad. Just grab them by the neck and twist. Worked fine on one or two baddies. No more problemo from them.

Some animal experience tells me that it could be any number of things, to include a injury/illness that caused the cat a lot of pain.

Dogs usually don't react like that. They cover up and protect themselves, but cats will lash out.

I dunno..........

We raised some pretty heavy white turkeys. Butchered three that dressed out at 40+ lbs. The four that were left, I decided to let live a while. BUT every time I went out in the mornign to work with my nice dress, they would flog the crap out of me and ruin my pantyhose. One morning I had had enough. Went back in and grabbed a butcher knife. Hubby asked me where I was going. I said I was going to kill those SOBs. He said he'd do it and what did I want to do with them after he'd shot them. I said throw them to the damn buzzards. He did.

How true! My doxie was smart enough to do the same, but dumb enough to go "ptooie," so I knew he hadn't swallowed the pill. Nuisance to go find it and start over.

This is a really sad story.

Imagine the trauma for the family - particularly the little girl. Those of you who have pets know that they are part of the family.

I hope they find out what caused the cat to go crazy.

Sounds like it could have ingested something while in the basement.

That's the first thing I thought of too. Maybe a toxic household cleaner of some kind.

Ears flat back, hair standing on end and eyes bulging, Mickey lunged across the dining room and attacked her daughter, biting through her jeans and slicing into her leg.

When the cat released its grip, it continued coming at the girl, shrieking and hissing.

It's just so strange for an otherwise normal and loving family pet cat to just go completely ballistic like that. But by his psycho behavior it was best that he was put down for the safety of the family.
