A Hattiesburg man has been sentenced to life in prison after his third drunk driving conviction.
Referring to the recent sentencing of Mark Allen Debrow, 37, District Attorney Jon Mark Weathers said he had pledged to punish habitual offenders.
"In our judgment, Debrow represented a significant risk to the public," Weathers said.
One of Debrow's prior convictions was in the 1990s, when he was convicted of aggravated assault after hitting someone while driving drunk, records show.
Victims' advocate June Renfrow said all victims want is justice.
"When a person receives a sentence and it's not just a slap on the wrist, then often that's the only way victims or their families can move forward with their lives," Renfrow said.
I'm moving to Mississippi. Who needs stinking $750 DUIs when I could charge murder defense rates for DUIs?
Perhaps because of a life sentence for three DUIs? What do they give a serial rapist?
The Needle?
I don't think any of the "three strikes" laws require you kill someone.
I'm moving to Mississippi.
Take I-55 South out of Chicago.
I have to agree. I would be much harsher on DUIs than most people.
For those who complain that worse crimes, are not punished so harshly. You're right, but should we not make those punishments more harsh, than lighten this punishment?
You should be very proud of yourself.
I know that I'm impressed.
This place does have that "neighborhood" feel about it.

My reply: In California, shoplifting is a felony if you have any prior conviction for any theft-related crime (another shoplifting, burglary, auto theft, etc). However, a shoplifting conviction is NOT a "strike" under our three-strikes law - even a felony shoplifting offense. A "strike" is only "a serious or violent felony".
Hope that helps
"Did this guy kill someone while driving drunk or did he just get 3 DUIs?"
No, maybe the fourth will be the lucky one!!! I mean give me a break, I don't agree that life should be the punishment but frankly nothing short of ten years would make me feel safer.
Damn. Bob Probert has something like 8 DUIS on his record.
I think driving a car drunk is like shooting into a crowd of people. Maybe this is the only way to deal with the problem.
"How many homosexuals are convicted of intentionally infecting someone with AIDS?"
Ok, wait a minute....DON'T TELL ME!!! I know this one, dammit don't tell me, hold on a second, DON'T TELL ME!! I know this, come on don't tell me... I know it, DON'T TELL ME......
Aww sh*t, I don't know? zero? ;)
I agree!
The DUI guy should share a cell with the HIV guy. If that was the punishment their would be less DUI's if not zero.
"If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. No since whining about the punishment."
I didn't hear him whining about anything....
Hell, and a cocaine smuggling charge too.
The Darryl Strawberry of Hockey
"The Needle?"
Where, in Ghana??
I think Darryl did more time. Ole Bobby is like the Energizer Bunny.
A habitual offender DUI is a lot more likely to repeat his offense than a first offense murderer. And either one can make you just as dead.
"How many homosexuals are convicted of intentionally infecting someone with AIDS?"
According to http://www.hivcriminallaw.org/prosecutions/index.cfm there have been 164 convictions for infecting someone with HIV. It doesn't say how many were gay, though.

Thank you....I am.
And for all you youngsters out there, I have had more fun here in the last 6 years than all those 30 years in bars put together.
