Well, you seem to need a Mac to take the Tour....not too smart.

Count me a skeptic. Since MAC first introduce to the public and OS/2 made true multitasking manageable on the PC, there have not been any real earth moving changes in the PC.

For example, everything claimed on the web page can already be duplicated on Linux and I believe MS, though I'm not as aware of MS capabilities.

Can I play DooM on it?

Oh, that requires DOS.

Apple OS's are not backwards compatible with legacy PC software and that is still an issue.

Office networking software such as Novell and Citrix still do not run well on Apple/PC hybrid networks.

Doom I, are you serious? I can't play that on my PC at home either, not as configured (NTFS XP). Perhaps I could use a boot disk, but what for? I can run WinDoom just fine. Heck, DOOM is now public domain software, and I am sure someone has a Linux version, which should run on a Mac, with modifications.

Legacy software is NOT a big deal for those in the market to buy a Mac.

"No you just need quicktime."

Ouicktime is virtually a virus/trojan. Do NOT install this if you do not need it. The damn thing is a TSR and it installs all sorts of crappy Apple=poop to your machine without your permission.

I've also found it easier to remove Bagle or NetSky from PCs than to remove Quicktime.

Legacy software is a big deal for enterprises that are using stuff from 1986.

DooM functionality is just a benchmark.

I did read my sentence before hitting the post button. Since I did not resort to colloquialisms, at least not that I'm aware, what, in particular, did you find difficult to understand?

Probably not the enterprise customers you are referring too.

I play DOOM I and II on my Mac. What's your problem? ;)

If it does that without your permission, you should rub it's nose in it...

Enjoy your Windows player...

Oh, but I do. Quicktime gathers usage data and sends it to Apple (spyware) and if you load viruses & Trojans to your .dat files then the good folks at Apple get to have fun when they *steal* these files from you.

That's what I meant, essentially, when I note that DooM is just a benchmark. If you can run Doom v1.1 on an OS there's a lot of legacy stuff that'll run on it, too.

There are MS patches that MS will provide gratis from their Knowledge Base http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=fh;[ln];kbhowto to enable XP to be fully backwards compatible to DOS *and* still be in NTFS.

The old programs still need to be run from the DOS prompt, but you can run them.

I'm not seeing any features that make me want to jump ship from Panther just yet. I have a first generation dual USB iBook so I doubt I'll be able to take advantage of all of the new features (e.g., I can't do video chatting) so I'll probably wait until I need it.
