Note it's a college newspaper: University of Texas at Austin. I don't know who the Freeper is who is quoted.

This guy's a total leftist, with surprisingly an intellectually honest bone in his body. (Albeit tongue-in-cheek with the obligatory Bush bashing)

Yeah, it winds up being rather complimentary I thought, if in a backhanded way.

The kid may have some stupid beliefs, but since he has intellectual honesty, he may be salvageable eventually.

Put him on the list of candidates for deprogramming.

...those idiosyncrasies that make him the object of vituperative, filthy mudslinging...

When commenting on another's intellectual and personal honesty, the author should be similarly honest. It isn't he President's "idiosyncrasies" that make him the object of vituperative, filthy mudslinging, it's the fact that he's a conservative Republican. Were GWB exactly the same man, except for having a (D) after his name, the same people who vilify him now would heap praises on him -- or at least hold their tongues.

From a president who has coined (and I use this word as disdainfully as possible) words such as "misunderestimate," "Hispanically," and "the Internets" in rehearsed stump speeches and - Heaven help us! - an actual presidential debate, news that The New York Times has heard nine hours of unabridged and unaided Bushspeak is surely a conservative dystopia.

Time the media noticed that the President has come a long way from the above BushSpeak. His SOTU address was spectacular. He has learned to relax more during his public speeches and has progressed nicely.

Seems the media are all upset that the tapes didn't reveal some deep dark secrets they could use against him!!!

Until it was clear that the enemies within could not use the tapes, I was prepared to accept what had to be done.

After all Watergate was SOP political bugging and cover up. It was the press frenzy and MSM's fellow pro-Ho "anti-war" Nixon haters that made it more.

My first thoughts were, here we go again. More than three years into another war to defend the U.S. against an enemy now the left likely has their Watergate with these tapes and the ability to destroy another wartime administration.

I did not want to see another war time administration destroyed and victory handed to an enemy by politicians and the MSM.

I did not want submission to the enemy. This time the attacks were on our soil. This war is for all the marbles. I really believe that.

I was prepared to say, I'd rather see a temporary suspension of the Constitution and a wall-to-wall house cleaning. Internment for the duration for all enemies within!

I was ready to say, Put on a stovepipe hat if you have to, Mr. President. What would Abe do to save the Republic?

(I still kinda sorta like the idea.)
