Bet you've never been a soccer game.

Chicago Fire vs. DC United

Don't expect this much boredom at an NBA or MLB game :)

Apples and Oranges. When you compare the popularity of 2 sports, the only thing that matters is how many people watch it. Case closed.

Ballack out and Gerard. That sort of evens it out.

It appears to me that you are the one seeking an argument. I posted one comment that I didn't expect much from the thread. (Check it out) and in apparently typical drunken soccer fan fashion you're looking for a fight.

Do you actually know how many soccer matches end in 0-0? Or is this another baseless comment we should ignore?

Oh yeah? Have any proof of that?

Soccer World Cup is watched by a cumulative 40 billion people. Champions League matches get more than 800 million viewers each.

FIFAworldcup.com set a new milestone in the history of sports websites on the internet by registering over 2 billion page views in 2 weeks during the last World Cup.

A vast majority of MLS tickets are given away for free. Soccer has been the "next big sport" in America for the last twenty-five years, hasn't happened yet, isn't going to happen. Run, run, run, kick the ball, run, run, run, kick the ball. Three hours later, scoreless tie. It's mostly played by little kids in the US and that's only because it's so cheap to play.

I am not here to bash soccer, merely your erroneous claim. I hope you all enjoy the matches & this live thread

If your 25 million tickets in 9 years is any indication, NASCAR sells over 5 million seats at the track alone for
the NEXTEL Cup alone, never mind the Busch races, truck races, IRL, IMSA, NHRA, USAC, SCORE, and all the local short tracks and other forms of auto racing all over the country and the world for that matter.

Enjoy the matches!

Stop the nonsense. Have any support for your wild claim?

Personally, soccer is deadly boring viewing to me, but then I think about it, and you can make the same statement about ANY sport.

Football, baseball, hockey, basketball, auto racing... all can be described as boring to a various degree.

In fact, I've seen guys on motorcycles jumping 30 feet in the air, leaving their seats and doing handstands in mid-air, then landing safely and doing it again 5 seconds later. I think it's the most amazing thing I've ever seen, but one minute later I say, "meh", and change the channel.

Sports TV is only interesting nowadays if you're a die-hard team fan (NY Giants for me), or you have a wager going. Anything else, I'll catch the highlights on Sportscenter.

BTW, the criteria for most popular is defined as paid attendance.

It's because it's so cheap to play that it's swept the rest of the world. It's a unifing concept, a leveller. It's the international language of the world, dude!

As for the, 'runrunrunkick,' comments, I can only say that it's a damn sight more interesting than your NFL with its 6 seconds of running and ten minutes of beer commercials!

I've seen some amazing 0-0 draws, huddled on the terraces in driving rain watching my injury-ravaged team hold out like Redcoats at Rourke's Drift. It truly is the beautiful game.
