Sort of...it represents a fault breaking and the break propagating along the fault sort of like a zipper...unlike the nuke which is a quick boom.

I'm not a geologist or anything. But I have read my o-scope enough to tell the difference twixt an impulse (the sharp spike of energy caused by the nuke) and a building disturbance being brought back into control.

Battling 'The Prince of Persia' (power behind the mullah's throne) won't be an easy task, but the enemy shall lose in the end.

This is an update via the AP:

TEHRAN, Iran – A powerful earthquake shook central Iran on Tuesday, destroying villages and killing at least 30 people, state-run television reported.

An official in the city of Kerman said that the 6.4-magnitude quake killed at least 30 people and injured scores of others, according to the broadcast.

The epicenter of the earthquake was 35 miles from Kerman, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. Kerman provincial governor Mohammad Ali Karimi was quoted by the TV station as saying that "several villages have been destroyed" by the earthquake.

It quoted the governor of Zarand, identified only as Rashidi, as saying that power in the region has been disrupted.

The broadcast said that rescuers were en route to several villages near Zarand.

A magnitude-6.6 quake in December 2003 flattened the historic southeastern city of Bam in the same region, killing 26,000 people. Iran is located on seismic fault lines and is prone to earthquakes. It experiences at least one slight earthquake every day on average.

I wonder what it is like to be ***hiding in a cave*** when these quakes occur?.....

Not too much different than when a big bomb hits right outside....

I dug up the following data concerning 'Bam' Iran (Persia).

'Etymology of the word Bam'

'About the origin of the word Bam, there are some links even to the mythical history of Iran, namely according to some sources “Bam” is metamorphosis of the word “Bahman”, which is the name of a king, about whom Ferdowsi (940? -1020?), the most renowned epic poet of Iran, narrates in his most famous work Shahnameh (The Book of Kings), written during 30 years (980-1010).'

'This epic, consisting of 60,000 verses, is the most ancient book written in modern Persian, in which Ferdowsi both crystalised the Persian language (long after when Arabic was spread in Iran consequently of the arrival of Islam), and gives an account for the 1. 5-millennium history of ancient Persia starting before Achemenids (the first Persian royal dynasty in the 7th century B.C.), i.e. from Pishdadids period, until the arrival of Islam in Iran, i.e. 641 A.D.. Bahman was the son of Esfandiyar who had fought against Rostam, one of the chief heroes in the Shahnameh.'

Citadel and mud city of Bam - Located in southeastern Iran, 200 kilometers south of Kerman, the ruined city of Arg-e-Bam is made entirely of mud bricks, clay, straw and the trunks of palm trees. The city was originally founded during the Sassanian period (224-637 AD) and while some of the surviving structures date from before the 12th century, most of what remains was built during the Safavid period (1502-1722). During Safavid times, the city occupied six square kilometers, was surrounded by a rampart with 38 towers, and had between 9000 and 13,000 inhabitants. Bam prospered because of pilgrims visiting its Zoroastrian fire temple (dating to early Sassanian times) and as a commercial and trading center on the famous Silk Road.

' As Ferdowsi epically narrates, Bahman fights against the son of Rostam, who was called Faramarz. A sandstorm hindered Faramarz and Bahman defeated him; as a triumph he built a fortress on the rock hill there, where the Bam Citadel is now situated.'

Interesting.

I'll add this to my "Just Bam!" list.
