"I think that's DISGUSTING!" the woman said haughtily.
Well, the clerk can't say anything of course, but I mumbled, loud enough for her to hear: "Then go back to Massachusetts." The fellow next to me said something about as disparaging.
She look SHOCKED that one of the country hicks would DARE talk back to her, and she stormed off.
It was a delightful moment, indeed. I am sure she went back to Weston or wherever and horrified her library club with the tale about the wild-west Neanderthals that are running amok in Maine.
And I am sure that she thinks that something needs to be done about us.
Great story. These people will say almost anything. They feel as if they're entitled to stomp all over anyone who is the least bit different than they are. If we acted toward them like they do toward us, they all would have either committed suicide or started a civil war by now.
