Congressman Pearce says more agents needed along border

ARTESIA, N.M. Representative Steve Pearce says security along the U-S-Mexico border in New Mexico is inadequate.

Pearce met with local officials at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia yesterday.

The Republican congressman says there have been breakdowns in sharing information on drugs and human trafficking across the border.

Pearce -- a member of the Homeland Security Committee -- says he's working to increase the number of border agents.

He also wants to develop technology that would replace humans with computers that can sense movement along the border and contact authorities.

Pearce says legal reasons for crossing the border -- including family relations, trade and tourism -- should be facilitated.
