Is this not the fellow we accused of being an Iranian Spy?

Nope. 'WE' didn't accuse him of anything.

They found secret U.S. documents in his house in Baghdad.

If we want to nab someone for possessing secret US documents, we need look no further than Sandy Berger, the former Cinton Admin fellow who stuffed a number of such documents into his briefs on several occasions, and who 'accidentally' destroyed some of the evidence. Funny how we never have trolls on this website demanding that something be done about that, or smacking Berger with all manner of derogatory labels.

Who is 'they?' The raid on his house was not carried out by American officials but by Iraqi police, who as it turned out were acting on the orders of one judge, a former Baathist who has since been slapped down. In spite of the press's efforts to make us believe or Iraqis believe the raid was officially sanctioned by the US and Paul Bremer, it wasn't. It was a rogue act of a single Iraqi judge.

Why did the judge do it? The reason could be that the Iraqi defense minister was POed that Chalabi accused him of mishandling funds and had his friend the judge come to the rescue. Or perhaps someone else is POed, such as former Baathists and the good ol UN and of course, anyone who knows their name is going to pop up eventually out of that Oil for Food investigation. The raid was ordered by Iraqis who certainly weren't looking in his place for secret US documents- at least not on our behalf since we hadn't approved of the raid. More likely, since they had in their group some private contrtors, some entity paid them to do it and they were looking for some docments from the previous regime of Saddam Hussein, such as personnel files of the Iraqi Army, or documents having to do with the Iraqi intelligence service, or Qusay's personnel, which as it happens tends to mean the United Nations...

This doesn't sound good at all!

Doesn't have to. Chalabi knows that US support can be the kiss of death to any individual who dares to trust us, so if this makes it look like a rogue that's OK, too.
