Bad politics and bad marketing. The GOP needs to state unequivically that drilling in the ANWR will reduce the price of gas by X dollars per gallon and then let everyone vote their pocket book.

Bad idea. Given that ANWR is expected to contain only 13-18 billion barrels of oil, and that output would be likely only 1.25-1.5 million barrels of oil a day it won't make much of a dent at all.

Note that the US uses 20.4 million barrels of oil a day (the world uses 83 mbd all told) for an annual usage of 7.45 billion barrels (world usage ~30 billion barrels). Also that if ANWR were opened today it wouldn't be opened for business for another 5-6 years so demand will be higher- probably 23-24 mbd for the US and 90-95 or so for the world
