I live in New York City and have discovered on many occasions the power of the simple words "I admire Bush" to inspire tirades, tears and temper tantrums. It was disconcerting at first, but after a while I began to feel a sense of power. At any rate, trying to fit in by keeping a low profile is hopeless. Eventually, you'll hear some idiocy that makes you lose your cool. Be honest from the beginning and the advantage remains on your side.

Sounds like sage advice.

I wish those were the only words that inspired the conflict. The problem is some of the radicals are unhinged and out of control.
I have had to walk away from the Neocon- Likud 9-11 conspiracy talk. This is not legitimate dissent and insults the memory of the victims. The problem is that since our side is passive this behavior is unchecked.
I wish someone other than Popular Mechanics would confront these cranks head on.I would also love to know who is funding this nonsense.

Keep up the good work! Just remember, with those effects every time you say "I admire Bush" it's like purchasing a lottery ticket or putting a coin in a slot machine whose payoff could be one less democrat through a stroke or massive heart attack... ;-)

Living and working in the middle of the liberal paradise - Seattle - for the last 12 years has pretty much convinced me that being a liberal means literally hating anything you disagree with.

Certainly, there are haters on the right but, my God, I would never have believed it had you told me what living here would be like.

Right after the election some compassionate leftist filed a human resources complaint against a co-worker of mine for - I sh!t you not - "Voting for Bush".....and I don't work at McDonalds....I'm talking a multi-million dollar, professional services company in the middle of the city.

If you say something they don't like, the lefties up here will sometimes flat-out yell at you.  It's pretty bizarre.

I stopped talking politics some time ago.
