**Without Ronald Reagan's leadership, the USSR would still be a living breathing threat. For all that the British Commonwealth is capable of, there is no way Britain or Mrs. Thatcher could have broken the soviet economy or won the cold war.**

Very few countries on their own could have achieved this if any. Yes it was prodomiently down to Ronald Reagan he was a man of the times. Communism had run its course certainly in Eastern Europe and he was in a position and had the intelligence and foresight to exploit that.

This is a separate issue though what we are talking about is not the power of a country but the ability of a woman to do the job the example you gave relates to the country's power and not the person.

Would you vote for an alpha male liberal (if one exists) over a conservative woman?

Bear in mind that I have always used the phrase Conservative alpha male.

I have never voted for a rat. Never intend to.

If faced with the scenario you proposed (for the US Presidency) I would write in the man I believed was best suited for the job.

Signing off now. Chores to do. I'll be back tomorrow should you choose to continue our chat.

Exposure.

And the fact that if Bush should (God Forbid!) become incapacitated) Condi could BE the President, just as Cheney could BE the President. They are Capable and extremely good choices for Second in Command!

I'm wondering--has any Republican ever been mayor of Boston? The influx of Irish immigrants began in the 1840s and by the time the Republican Party was formed, the Irish would have been able to vote. Honey Fitz, JFK's grandfather, was mayor of Boston in 1906, 1907, and 1910-1914. Presumably all of the other mayors in those years were Democrats.

Although he did not hold prior U.S. government elected office, George Washington was a delegate to the Virginia House of Burgesses before the Revolution..... State legislators (although not directly usually via military service or through other offices) during that time was a regular stepping stone to the presidency...

She's pro-abort, which makes her unqualified. End of story.

"Look George, this is no time to go wobbly. We can't fall at the first fence."

Margaret Thatcher to President George Bush, August 1990

I believe Thatcher did her share of "spine stiffening"

How true with the look of Bill Clinton one wonders what his health or indeed will he still be around in 2008 and if that is so would Hilliary still run.

She may wish to and as far as she is concerned it probably makes no difference but there are many voters out there that will vote for her simply because of Bill Clinton. In there minds they see it as a way of 4 or 8 year more years of Bill Clinton. Therefore if Bill Clinton is not around or incapacitated will the Dems want her?
Compare him to Cheney this week he does not look well

I FULLY support the idea of Vice-President Cheney retiring. Whether Condi Rice would make the best VP after him, I don't know. But I sure respect that gal, and I see no reason not to vote for her in 2008 if she's put on the ballot.

This rumor has been floating around since the last term. I'm not convinced.

Hillary is smart as a whip, but without Bill to guide her, she's an ingenue.

"Get over your one trick, son.
This isnt' an immigration thread.
Take it elsewhere."

I think you might be one of the kooks Sean was talking about. Ten people in this thread saw fit to give me a courteous and thoughtful reply, but not you. Check my bookmarks. I think only one or two out of about 50 might be about immigration, if that many.

And here is a search of my posts:

PLEASE demonstrate how I have ONE trick of any kind.

Once again I see you giving FReepers a hard time for no valid reason. You're getting quite a reputation around here... LOL

Is there a precedent for electing someone to the presidency who has next to nothing in the way of administrative experience, someone who holds office because of the power and influence of their spouse's position? Compare this with the experience of managing the State Dept, the national security apparatus, and not withstanding major management positions at a university and various organizations. Should be a no-brainer. Should be.......
