There are one-issue voters whose issue will always stop them, whether it's guns, immigration, pro-life, national defense, taxes, or whatever. Those tend to filter down to a pretty small % when all is said and done. I know LOTS of pro-life people who nevertheless would vote for Condi.

Interesting theory. But I would hate to lose Cheney.

Then again, all of us can be replaced.

As much as I like Dr. Rice, I do not want to see Dick Cheney step down, nor do I want a "woman" for our President.

Get ready to get flamed on that one!!

Everyone keeps talking about Hillary's stance on illegal immigration. What is it? I haven't heard.

That's only because she takes a stance but does not elaborate a position. "...And we must do something about illegal immigration." Just what that something is she leaves for people to hear what they want to hear.

What do you really know about Margret Thatcher both domestically and on the world stage name where without Ronald Reagan's help she would have floundered.

Without Ronald Reagan's leadership, the USSR would still be a living breathing threat. For all that the British Commonwealth is capable of, there is no way Britain or Mrs. Thatcher could have broken the soviet economy or won the cold war.

It took a strong willed Conservative alpha male.

Currently, with Communist China emerging as an economic super power and islam remaining a worldwide terrorist threat, Americans can't afford to go wobbly now.

No flame here, but you want to explain that one while I reload my .50 cal. Bushmaster?

How about supporting the best person for the job regardless of the person's sex?

Condi is w/o a doubt one of the best people to ever take up the mantle of Public Service to the Country. The Best and brightest stay in the private sector because the pressure they are put under normally far and away out-weights the salary and other compensations returned. Condi is a true patriot to do it (she could be making some hardcore $$$ if she wanted to!) and is a great asset to this country. So, explain away!

Would you vote for an alpha male liberal (if one exists) over a conservative woman?

I believe you are just anti women in authority or power.

Back when the sun never set on the British Empire, this was the case because alpha males made it so.

This is a magnificent example which Americans should heed.

Actually, according to William A. DeGregorio's useful factbook on the presidents, Coolidge's career before the Presidency included member of the Massachusetts General Court (i.e., state legislature), mayor of Northampton, Mass., Massachusetts state senator, Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts, Governor of Massachusetts, and of course Vice President of the United States.

So he was never mayor of Boston, although it was the police strike in Boston in 1919 that brought him to national attention and led to his becoming the VP nominee in 1920.

Well, you know one less now. Why are we conservatives always asked to compromise or wait till this or that and continually watering down social conservatism.

We are being moderating by our success. I'm sure Condi is a wonderful person. I do not know her but for me a pro-abort on the ticket is abysmal. And yes....you can add gun grabber to that also as a deal killer though I am unaware of her gun views. Meanwhile, luckily we run against Democrats who scare slightly more people worse. Without this war, we would have lost two months ago....in my view. But folks did mention values "disconnect" with the left, but FR doesn't seem to focus much on that snippet. Anyhow..good luck. I'm still looking.

I agree with you, and "we" are all Republicans or at least conservatives debating on FreeRepublic. There must be one stronger ideology that holds us together. Gee, I wonder what that is? Possibly something to do with responsibility no matter what our "issues" are! We are watching how Condi negotiates with misogynist leaders on the world stage. Let's see how she does.

Once again we have the Condi 2008 people speculating on another scenario that will put her in close proximity to getting the Republican nomination for President.
How many times must it be pointed out that this woman has never held any elected office and we don't know where she stands on anything.
Even if this scenario were to pan out, being Vice President still does not make her Presidential timber. Comparing this to Gerald Ford doesn't wash either. Ford was an elected official and was the Republican Minority leader in Congress for many years. He was a know quantity.
Condi by comparison is an unknown quantity on almost every important issue.
Yet most of you are willing to run not walk to promote her candidacy without having the slightest idea of what her views are about any of the issues.
Does anyone know for sure she's even a Conservative?
Also this country may have come a long way but is it ready for a Woman President and more precisely a Black Woman President?
Where will Condi Rice's support come from as she has no natural base or constituency and don't even think that because she is Black that will translate into getting a bigger percentage of the Black vote because that won't happen. Blacks will look at her and consider her a Female Uncle Tom and "Uppity" and will not support her in any great numbers for precisely those reasons and the fact she is a Republican.
The chances of Condi Rice ever being President are slim and none.
The only far out scenario that would put her as President would be if she was appointed Cheney's successor and George Bush was assassinated.

The same can be said about many countries we backed who have been led by men.

Certainly. When faced with a superior enemy bent on aggression, it pays to have the worlds greatest super power in your corner.

I contend that we will be unable to that position without a Conservative alpha male at the helm.

You're argument is losing ground quickly.

You haven't even laid a glove yet.

: )

**I agree with the visibility and prestige (and even power), but how many Secretaries of State have ascended directly to the presidency?**

How many have wished to? Which leads to we can speculate all we may like and the writer can make as many statements as he wants about Sec Rice becoming VP but does she want to or indeed want to be President in the future.

Absolute nonsense. Can you imagine the left painting Condi as a closet Nun?

Or others wondering who is going to be invited to the Oval Office for lunch and munch?

Anyone can speculate. This is proof of point.

I'll have to pick up that book. I know I didn't write in PHUSA that he was mayor (I don't think I did), but I always thought he was mayor.
