Andrew Jackson, William Henry Harrison, Dwight Eisenhower, and Ulysses Grant never held elective office. All four were successful generals. Does being NSA and SoS qualify? SoS USED to be the MAIN route to the presidency (Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Adams, Buchanan) but no longer was after the Civil War.

Condi could be a good choice IF---and only if---she makes up her mind to cut away from the pack on immigration. If she stakes out a strong anti-illegal stand, and maybe lures Owens in as Veep, even her "pro-choice" views would be politically irrelevant.

""according to a report by geopolitical expert Jack Wheeler.""

Jack Wheeler is very intelligent, but he isn't an oracle.

It seems to me that a switch from Sec of State to VP is a demotion in many ways. Bush needs Rice in her current spot.

Thanks. I don't know how I forgot about Eisenhower but I had no idea Hoover hadn't held office prior to the presidency. What was his background?

Yes, Condi will replace Cheney and the President will nominate me for SOS. You heard it here first.

Junk rumors. Cheney isn't going anywhere and I'm getting tired of people trying to push him out the way they do Rummy. I can understand Libs wanting him out of the way, but conservatives need to stop allowing political analysis (IMO analysis that is on shaky ground) from influencing what is best for this country. Cheney is a wonderful VP and he's not going anywhere. IF Condi runs for President, she doesn't need VP to give her clout.

"They" had better be ready for an answer. If Cheney steps down in favor of Rice then the next two years will be filled with stories of how he was forced from office.

Two vice-presidents have resigned in our nation's history, John Calhoun and Spiro Agnew. I don't think Cheney wants to be the third.

Hillary's stance on illegal immigration. What is it?

Empty words.

Condi has brains and experience. And she's a lot easier on the eyes than the Hildebeast. David Geffen was right; all Hildy has going for her is ambition.

Democrat Party charged with the governance of this country for most of the twentieth century, discharged their duties poorly. They deserve the garbage pail of history, nothing more.

This scenario makes sense but there's one fly in the ointment. Condi's never been elected to office. Is there a precedence for someone (besides George Washington or maybe one of the very earliest Prez's) being elected with no previous elected office?

Dwight Eisenhower, Ulysses S. Grant, and Andrew Jackson for sure.

Not so sure, but maybe Woodrow Wilson?

Even Abraham Lincoln only held one 2 year term in the House, and was defeated when he re-ran, and it was a long time before he ran for President.

Exactly right....there was much speculation and rumour this would happen before the election campaign...didn't happen.
