Great piece. Some would have us believe that Lincoln trampled on the law of the land. Such a proposition would lead to the conclusion that this country for the past 140 years or so has been on the wrong track. I don't buy that for a second; for whatever reasons, Lincoln was helping this country live up to its ideals. Christians, in particular, who rail against the current foolish secular hatred of all things Christian, should appreciate Lincoln's ending slavery, a sin, and value that great move over the squawking about the correctness of ending slavery.

And this is what passes for conservative thought by some in this day and age. God help us all. Conservatism and limited government is completely dead. The most worthless President to ever sit in the office destroyed the Constitution for one thing only. Taxes. Not the abolition of slavery, not freedom, but greed. And this nation of states praises him as a great leader. No wonder this nation of states is in the shape it is today

I'm sorry, Dark, but you evidently have never read anything the Bible says about the 'sin' of slavery.

Please read Colossians, ch 13-14 if memory serves. Slavery is NOT a sin. In fact, the Bible gives very detailed instructions under which slavery is allowed to exist. In fact, the instructions on slavery are very similar to those on divorce- another practice that is allowed, under certain circumstances, although it has negative effects.

A study of the Slave Narratives, in their own words, shows the prodominant practices in the South followed the Apostle Paul's instructions.
