I'd hate to see small rural schools close. that's where I got my first few years of education. Each room having 2 grades, KK/1st, 2nd/3rd etc.
I had great individual attention and got a wonderful start on the process of lifelong learning.
I'm thinking it was as close to homeschooling as a public school can get.
Try this: My uber-liberal Property professor always enjoyed splicing in racial issues into the class. One day she was both celebrating the death of racial restrictive covenants (where one agrees to refuse to sell to a minority when moving into a neighborhood), and decrying the "white-flight" in so many areas that were integrating. I asked her why it was a good thing that blacks could finally exercise their freedom to live where they want, but not okay for whites to do the same by moving out of those same areas.
After her rant in response, I asked her if white-flight should be restricted by law... and she said yes.

I doubt whether it's a question of race, as such. People want their kids to get a first-rate education, and if substantial numbers of other students in the classroom with them are less prepared or even less bright or can't speak the language well, it pulls the whole class down.
I don't know what you can do about this kind of problem. Regardless of the period, there have always been situations where some kids are born on the wrong side of the tracks. In the past kids would be streamed, or maybe some of them simply wouldn't go to school but would work on the farm starting at an early age.
It's impossible to have an excellent, demanding education that stretches kids to the limit and an education that treats all kids exactly alike, regardless of ability. In America you just have an obligation to give every kid a CHANCE to prove himself, or periodic chances to straighten themselves out and switch over to the faster track.
I suggest that Eisenhauser go find a nice place to live in an Hispanic neighborhood. After he gets repeatedly robbed and beaten he can answer the question for himself why whites are leaving.
At some point, people in this country will have to wake up and realize that you can't legislate everything.

Yes. i voted in this cartel last time because Doofus could have destroted the country in 1 term but 3 prior this cartel didn't earn my vote & if this single & IMO most important issue is not addressed in favor of us legals don't expect my or many in my fine neighborhood friends vote.
Just curious, who used to work at these meatpacking plants before the recent influx of hispanic (mexican) immigrants? I mean, Americans have been eating beef and chicken for a while now. Somebody had to have been working at these plants?
Why all of the sudden can they only be staffed by hispanic (mexican) immigrants? Somebody help me out here.
My guess is that a lot of these newcomers are illegal immigrants (Mexican Nationals ?) and they plan to bring Mexico to Nebraska.

I love Lexington, NE...there is a small truckstop on the southside of the intersate that has a resturant adjacent to it.
The resturant has a "chicken fried steak" that is over a 1/2 lb of real tenderized steak, battered and deep fried with veggies for $7.95 (couple years ago) They bring the steak on 1 plate and the veggies on another.
Don't know if this is still the case or not, haven't been there in a while. Also, there is a grocery store on the north side of the interstate, that has a great deli with hot plate lunches for almost nothing.

Yeah, I used to live in Lexington a long time ago. It was a lilly-white community then, and they're determined to stay that way if they can!
Before Dick opens his mouth again he should make a trip to California and see what has happened to the quality of education in our schools because of non-English speakers. He might also note that we're being forced to build MANY new schools to accommodate them, all at the expense of California taxpayers/homeowners.
