So, are you suggesting that every reporter in the White House briefing room be subject to an examination of their personal lives

Isn't that exactly what a security screening is supposed to do? Not necessarily uncover that he's gay, but that he has trouble with paying taxes and perhaps the prostitution angle. They shouldn't let just anyone into a White House press conference.

There are many levels of security screenings. The standard for a White House press day pass would only have checked public records, it would not have involved a detailed investigation. And on the tax issue, I've had IRS troubles, but it hasn't stopped me from getting a DOD clearance (twice).
