Radio Producer Could Always Count on 'Gannon' for Tips

San Antonio radio producer Susan Farris could always count on James Guckert, a.k.a. former White House correspondent Jeff Gannon, to pitch an appearance on the shows she produces at conservative talk station KTSA.

He was not only anxious about pushing his story of the day, but seemed to always have some kind of inside knowledge about the White House, as well.

"I said, 'How do you have such great sources?' and he just laughed it off," she told E&P Friday. "Now we all know how."

Farris, who has worked in San Antonio radio for more than a decade, said she came across Guckert first at GOPUSA.com, then later read his work on Talon News, his online home prior to his recent resignation. "I would call [GOPUSA] for people to use on the air and they suggested him when I asked about White House coverage," she recalled. "They called themselves a re-write service. They would take other people's work and put it up on their site." (Among the charges against Guckert was that he often simply rewrote White House press releases as news stories.)

Guckert, she said, frequently passed on what he clearly thought was insider information, during his 12 appearances on KTSA during 2003 and 2004. She first heard from him the expression "shock and awe" to refer to the massive U.S. bombing attack at the start of the Iraq war, and he fingered Mary Mapes as the producer of the so-called "Rathergate" segment on "60 Minutes" before she had seen that mentioned elsewhere.

"He very often called me and offered to be on the show to talk about his stories," she said. "I used to book him all the time. We used him on tons of White House stuff." She said she "had no idea" that Gannon was not Guckert's real name.

"So, are you suggesting that every reporter in the White House briefing room be subject to an examination of their personal lives, and that the President himself exclude anyone who is gay from those who get passes?"

Yes, esp. if the Administration is a sponsor of anti-gay-marriage and plants a gay reporter who tosses softball questions. I'm sure they're probably paying him off with my tax dollars, as they did those 2 'journalists'.

"You left has their heads spinning over this because they are threatened with the loss of control and the loss of power. "

I'm actually right (politically). I voted against gay marriage and am disgusted that this flaming gay plant is probably getting paid with my tax dollars to toss easy questions to the President.

If this was Clintax, we'd be outraged.

"How has the White House been "discredited"?"

Anything this guy says can be tossed in the trashcan.

"I agree with you. Any detailed look at Mr. Gannon's history and his activities outside of his reportorial duties suggests that it is best to let Mr.Gannon fade into the woodwork in deserved obscurity. I wouldn't suggest making any significant effort in this regard because what you will find is very very disturbing. Best to just say that consersative association with Mr. Gannon was a mistake and move on.

Our natural instinct is to come to the defense of all conservatives. However there is that very tiny number of conservatives who don't merit a defense. In fact I'm not even sure Mr. Gannon/ Guckert is a conservative. He may well be a cheap hustler who went for the brass ring and was caught. "

I couldn't - and didn't - say it better! Well said.

"C'mon, let's be intellectually honest. Had this guy had the past he has with the less than moral blogs and obtained access to the WH press briefings as a liberal in the Clinton Whitehouse, thrown softball questions all this would have been the FR scandal of the quarter."

Why so many people have so few issues with immoral behavior as long as there's an (R) involved is troubling, as it shows how hypocritical these folks are, politically.

I am in total agreement with you. I hope it doesn't "come out" (appropriate pun here) that the Admin. is paying this guy with taxpayer money, like those other 2 "journalists".

Right, you're a conservative. Like I said the left is pimping this story to try to resurrect their power in media.

Just thought about something.

This Farris lady says that Gannon knew about Mary Mapes being the producer of the CBS Memogate.

Well...so did anybody who saw the 60 minutes report.

SINCE IT WAS WRITTEN ON THE BACKDROP BEHIND RATHER WHEN THEY RAN THE SEGMENT!!!

Oh...and when they also listed her as producer in the credits to the segment.

So she's gay too?

After all, the current Delusional Party mantra is that anyone who talked to/knew/hears the name of Jeff Gannon is gay.

The left has nothing to do with the WH's dealings with this loser homo faux reporter. This is solely the fault of the Bush Admin Press staff, or whomever is responsible for handing out press credentials.

Sorry, I'm not as willing as you are to throw out anyone the Clintons/Democrats/press target for destruction. The trouble with conservatives is some of us can be counted on to take the bait and devour our own under the guise of "principle". That's a load of garbage.

I'm on the side of anyone who's on our side and all you principled, pink, baby-men can stand over to the side together and cluck your tongues.
