"Today, by contrast, we lack the moral confidence to impose our superior values on Iraq."
It is not entirely true. At the time the second war ended, politicians did not have to tap dance around the PC Police. What is more, outside the US, most of the world was on it's collective a^$ and not in a position to challenge our post war directives for Germany and Japan.
Furthermore, this author is not really fair to the President. The President has done what he could when he ought and then some. His achievements must be more and more appreciated for their courageous and selfless aim as time goes on. For now, the President and his allies are the Dutch boy with his finger in the dam. Time for the Iraqis to step up to the plate and take full advantage of their great good fortune and time as well, for the critics who want it all from one man, one administration and all at once to STFU!
