I've heard that Ted Turner pulled out. The reason was "Gods and Generals" was disappointing at the box office.
I REALLY wanted to like this movie (Gods and Generals) but IMO it wasn't a very good movie.
You know Valin, all you have to do is add pictures and this could have been a Foxhole thread. :-)
And it only gets better! Robertson certainly did a wonderful job on that book. Please be sure to finish it as it's well worth your time.
Thanks. I will definitely finish it. It's just going to take me some time. I'm really enjoying it so far. I've learned that Stonewall Jackson was much more than just an eccentric Confederate general.
I agree that Gods and Generals didn't pack the punch that Gettysburg did.
I think the coverage of including so many campaigns in the movie made it drag a bit.
The Gettysburg plot line moved quickly from the human interest perspective to the battle and back again.
The potrayal of Stonewall Jackson by Stephen Lang though was very, very good. The "prayer" conversation with his man-servant seemed like something right out of Jackson's own journal.
"Gods and Generals" probably needed about another 30 minutes of editing or needed to be broken up for TV, it just didn't play well on the big screen.
