Just as you can train a dog to do tricks, you can condition a human being. This type of conditioning is WRONG. A childs enviroment should reflect what is as close to what nature intended as possible.

My first job here in MA was working a night shift. So during the day it was either soaps or PBS. PBS back then (20 years ago) had actual educational TV during the day. After the morning big bird, they had math classes, english classes etc. Now they have pretty much cartoons all day. Some are pathetic. There's a new one this year called "bee ber" or somethign like that. It makes the Tele-Tubbies seem like Nobel prize winners.

What you described sounds exactly like something that I believe is called Boobah. It really is dumber than Teletubbies, which I would have thought impossible. Actually, it's a ripoff of Teletubbies, that took years to develop, by the British woman who "created" the Tubbies. (She apparently thinks that black children can do no more than jump up and down, again and again.) My four-year-old is very bright, and yet he loves this garbage. He also likes old Hanna-Barbaric cartoons. Today, I kept the TV off until a half-hour before it was time to leave for pre-K. I'm going to try and stick with that. (Of course, that meant that he saw an episode of the anti-English show, Dora the Explorer!)

That's the show. Revolting. All adults must be forced to watch at least one episode. :)
It's struck me as being designed to train kids at a VERY YOUNG age to sit in front of the TV like mindless boobs. The whole feel is one of putting kids into a hypnotic trance. Very 1984ish.
Never had a full time job raising kids, but my brother and sister in law had a great system. They let the kids have 2 hours per day. They had to decide between them what two hours to watch. Taught them to negotiate. Also taught them to do other things besides watching TV. Turned out to be two of the best kids I've ever met. Intelligent, INTERESTING!, great school grades, etc etc. Proud to call them niece and nephew.

I agree with you absolutely. They have to keep trying to push it on everyone else in a vain attempt to justify it to themselves and thereby try to blot out that tiny little part of their subconcious that tells them it's wrong.
