Really, who as a child says "when I grow up, I want to join the foreign service."
I imagine this is something marketing majors do when they can't find another job...

I have a 14-year old considering it.....that, or CIA ops.
I'm glad there are those who are willing to serve.

Really? Hmmm...after many years in marketing I now tutor high schoolers in English. The only thing foreign about that is the fact they're..well..high schoolers.

In Mr. Negroponte's time (childhood) the foreign service was considered a "noble" profession.
It seems he has served his country well.
Wishing him the best.

I did. I am now a retired FSO and was not a marketing major. I have no regrets.

We have a son who is getting a Masters in IR, and studying for the foreign service exam.
He's brilliant. He's conservative. And he wants to serve his country.
You have a problem with that?
