Telephone Rejection Service Provides Absentee Brush-Off

For people fed up with the hassles of turning down those on the singles scene whom they do not want to date, now there's a non-conforentational way to say "I'm not interested."

The Rejection Hotline is a fake phone number you give to people you don't want to date, when you just can't bear to tell them you're not interested:

"(RING...) Hello. This is not the person you were trying to call."

While the Rejection Hotline has been poular around the country, there's now a local number with a Philadelphia area code. And some area residents know how it works:

"When a person calls it up, it says you've just been rejected!"

"They give every imaginable excuse -- like you're horrible, you smell bad!"

But it's done in a somewhat humorous way, such as:

"Maybe the idea of going out with you just seems as appealing as playing leapfrog with unicorns."

What does this woman think of carrying the number with her?

"I would think it would be a nice way to say 'get lost.' "

Here's that number: 215-618-1505.

The service is paid for by sponsors who get brief commercial announcements amidst the brush-off recording.

A nice way to say "barf" to your date. When they ring, they know you're not at home.

non-conforentational

Hadas needs a date with a spell checker. Or a proofreader.

"fake phone # to people you don't want to date"?
So you just met 'em?
Why can't you just say : "I am not interested"?
After you just met the guy.
What is there to be embarrassed about?
It all sounds pretty dumb to me.

If they wanted to be nice, they would just say, "No thank you, I'm not interested." This just allows people to be nasty and dishonest without feeling guilty about it. It is cowardly, not nice.

Besides, this way you might be able to score a couple more drinks off the loser before giving him the old heave ho!

"nice" is just another form of cowardice. nice is the art of smoothing things over because you cant handle the blunt thruth.

if your too much of a tool to turn down a bad date, you really shouldnt be dating. the last thing we need is more wussy singles on the dating scene.

I don't think it's a 'nice' way at all.

I imagine someone might use it to be cruel, sniggering to themselves as they imagine the poor sap/sappess dialing up hoping they're going to be talking to that attractive girl/bloke they met last night.
