The .50BMG slug is slightly less than 50 caliber, and California's ban... passed last year... is so tightly drawn that a 50 caliber rifle that was actually 50 caliber wouldn't be covered.

EDM is building and selling their Windrunner rifles chambered in the "510 DTR European", a (get this) French wildcat cartridge. They're also chambering a .410 caliber cartridge in their XM04 takedown rifle.
