Dana Carvey/Dennis Miller hands down.
George W. Bush
Ellen DeGeneres is funny and would probably make a great host. I thoroughly enjoy her show. She got a little carried away with the gay thing a few years ago, but isn't like that now (still gay, but not "in your face" with it). She has also done some neat things for our troops and their families through her show.
This will be the most watched Academy Awards Ever and Gil Cates will be LAUGHING HIS HEAD OFF...there's a sucker born every minute.
What a dopey article. Chris Rock is a comedian and by all accounts and equal opportunity offender. This guy is trying to write some sort of knee-jerk piece.
Awards for art are indeed idiotic, because while it's easy say some movies are better than others, it's ridiculous to say one is the best.
FReepers should take a poll of whom we'd prefer as MC of the Oscars.
Jimmy Stewart
Johnny Carson, posthumously...I bet they could come up with enough clips...
Yes-s-s-ssss!! Why didn't I think of him? Perfect!
Congratulations, West Coast Conservative! Pssst! I'm one, too!:)
>This will be the most watched Academy Awards Ever...<
Not even close - I predict it will barely beat their worst or second worst year's ratings on record.
"Flyover country" is more than a little peeved over the Hollyweird Loony establishment's attacks on George Bush, family values, Mel Gibson, snubbing "Passion of the Christ" except for token nominations, and other offenses to numerous to enumerate.
Chris Rock is funny and simply "irreverent" sometimes; other times he is needlessly crude, vile and in no way funny. He is not, by himself, reason enough to watch. The awards are certainly not enough reason either. Any particular award somebody wants to learn about, they can jump on the internet for.
AMPAS needs Dennis Miller and Dana Carvey. Unpredictable and reliable, bitingly caustic and gently chuckling, savage satirizing and earnest mimickry, yin and yang...Oh and Btw - truly funny and politically WAY incorrect!
A.A.C.
Larry The Cable Guy
If I had to decide, I would get Dave Chapelle to host.
Johnny Carson, posthumously...I bet they could come up with enough clips...
In either case, they are both as dead as the Oscars.
Couple of suggestions: 1. Clint
2. Pierce Brosnan
3. Bette Midler
4. Helen Mirren, if they want to play it straight
5. John Cleese, if they don't
6. Virginia Madsen
7. Candy Bergen
8. Emma Thompson
That'll keep them busy for a while.
Chris Rock is a comedian. People need to get a sense of humor. All I see is people taking his words out of context; like "abortion is a beautiful thing"...he wasn't in support of it, he made some ridiculous joke like picking up women at a pro-choice rally. This knee-jerk reaction towards pop culture just hurts the conservative cause.
But how about Leno?
Conan would be funny. Are there any non-liberal comedians besides Larry the Cable Guy, and his group?
As for "Swank [deserves] for the emotional epic 'Million Dollar Baby,' in which she portrays an American hero", she doesn't portray a hero. She portrays a great American villain, in a film that was recently compared to a Joseph Goebbels masterpiece on much the same subject. It's wondered if Clint and others haven't hurredly been attempting to find a copy of Joe's old film, for a private screening, just to see if Clint and others weren't listening rather to their fallen angels, rather than to their better angels, when they worked on and so carefully crafted and revised this script?
