Ann Coulter's Invented Image posted February 15, 2005
The image of Ann Coulter is an invention.
If someone in the media marketing business were to create the perfect candidate for the job of mayor of Chattanooga, they would create the fictitious character of Ann Coulter. The character they describe sounds incredible. The problem is that when the facts are known, the facade falls apart.
Supposedly Ann has lived in Chattanooga all of her life according to her promoters. However, they failed to mention the last 15 years when she lived in Soddy Daisy. Her promoters say that as a small business owner she had to make a payroll. They forgot to brief her, since she said in a speech to the Pachyderm Club on February 14 that her business consisted of herself and her computer. I'm not sure how much she paid her computer.
According to her media hype, she is a person of spiritual and religious values. But she can't produce any evidence of that, except that she recently joined an Episcopal Church in St. Elmo after moving into the city in time to qualify for the mayor's race. In fact, she wrote a memo stating she was not a Christian which the handlers missed. Her media advisers hype the fact she consulted with "faith-based" organizations in her business to bolster her spiritual and religious image. However, she lists Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise, Chattanooga State, and Community Kitchen as some of her major accounts. Oops, missed that one.
Her media promoters came up with a great idea for her platform, A Buy/Use local campaign to get everyone in Chattanooga to buy their products and services here. Her campaign staff apparently missed that plank in her platform since she hired a firm in Nashville to purchase her TV ads. Apparently that local purchasing initiative does not apply to her, just the rest of us.
Will the real Ann Coulter please stand up. I think she has, and she doesn't match the media image created for her. She was put in this race by Jon Kinsey and the downtown developers to give them four more years' access to downtown projects. After all, she comes from RiverCity Company which approves all of them. Do yourself a favor and elect a real person with real ideas and a solid background as your next mayor. If you believe we need a lifelong politician and government employee, vote for Ron Littlefield. If you think we need an independent businessman to run the city as he would a successful business, vote for Dan Johnson.

This is just Coulter-bashing. Obviously a leftist paper, I would say.
