Sean Hannity vs. Free Republic

Sean Hannity apparently took a shot at Free Republic today on his syndicated radio show. I'll admit that I don't get the chance to listen to Sean Hannity's radio program but a short 90 second clip is posted at Free Republic.

The skinny from the clip:

Sean Hannity is promoting his message board and in part compares it to Free Republic. He then tells a story about how years ago he used to follow the Freepers, but left the board (and everyone he knows left it as well) because of "childish, immature personal attacks." He then alludes that the Freepers have a "propensity to eat their own" and is adamant that his bulletin board will not be taken over by "fringe people" I.E. the Freepers.

Yikes.

It has now sparked over 2,000 comments and its not even midnight. Kevin Aylward has promised to give Hannity a chance to respond at CPAC on Thursday if Hannity is in town.

This should get interesting.

It would be a exercise in character development if Sean Hanity were to check out the Free Republic response to his remarks. This would be a good opportunity for him to get a reality check from what I regard as fellow patriots for freedom in the best tradition of this Free Republic of America. Our forefathers discoursed just as we do in letters that promoted their intellectual ideas. Such discourse is so important that we developed a free republic to protect that ability for discourse. Because free speech often falls short of perfection, we as free men should have the maturity to expect criticism and correction when we fall short. Sean Hanity will see criticism and correction in this thread. He has sold short the thousands of good people who contribute. We will criticize but we will not eat him. This is free discourse, not cannibalism. There must be a certain amount of backbone in this enterprise.

We of the Free Republic are involved in the evolutionary development of ideas. What Sean Hanity saw two years ago is light years from where we are now. We grow exponentially and his forum will benefit greatly from those of us who might contribute to his forum.
