Only some I think. A higher percentages of posts are extraneous and don't add to the discussion, which can be annoying especially in a long thread, but I'm guilty of doing that too sometimes.
I'm not talking about those. There are plenty of 'ZOT Cleanup on aisle 7' posts that are inane but harmless (and I've participated in my share of those, just because it's fun).
What I mean was the vicious and angry comments that degrade the intellectual debate. I've run across plenty of over the top speech that has no place in civilized discussion, and I don't hesitate to fire for effect with a salvo of abuse button hits. Posting racist and hateful rants detracts from FR's value. I'm glad to see that they're cleaned up so fast, but it's a constant battle. Anyone with a keyboard and an internet connection can be a 'FReeper', and make us look bad by association.
