"Solidarity Forever"

When the union's inspiration through the workers' blood shall run,
There can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun;
Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one,
But the union makes us strong.

CHORUS:
Solidarity forever,
Solidarity forever,
Solidarity forever,
For the union makes us strong.

Is there aught we hold in common with the greedy parasite,
Who would lash us into serfdom and would crush us with his might?
Is there anything left to us but to organize and fight?
For the union makes us strong.

It is we who plowed the praries; built the cities where they trade;
Dug the mines and built the workshops, endless miles of railroad laid;
Now we stand outcast and starving midst the wonders we have made;
But the union makes us strong.

All the world that's owned by idle drones is ours and ours alone.
We have laid the wide foundations; built it skyward stone by stone.
It is ours, not to slave in, but to master and to own.
While the union makes us strong.

They have taken untold millions that they never toiled to earn,
But without our brain and muscle not a single wheel can turn.
We can break their haughty power, gain our freedom when we learn
That the union makes us strong.

In our hands is placed a power greater than their hoarded gold,
Greater than the might of armies, magnified a thousand-fold.
We can bring to birth a new world from the ashes of the old
For the union makes us strong.

IT SHOWS WHO THEY CARE ABOUT MOST AND IT'S NOT THE FANS! I'm tempted to toss every bit of NHL stuff I have and say screw them...

I said the same thing when the World Series was cancelled back in the mid-90's......

I slowly got over it..although if they would have never come back..I'd of not lost any sleep over it.

FWIW-

Already spent my sports dollars for 2005 on season's tickets for AAA baseball and also bought Mrs. Fury a new range and bedroom furniture.

I used to really like going to NHL games in Buffalo. I have lost interest over the last two-three years.

A sport the pisses liberals off because it's too violent.

Too white, too.

I blame both sides, but I give most of the blame to the players who should know better. There is no way the NHL can become equal or even close to the salaries of the NBA, MLB, and NFL players at this time or the near future. There isn't the same interest or TV deals. Now, the players are gonna really have to compromise or be replaced by kids who would love to play for a "paltry" million or so a year. Personally, I would rather see the NHL start fresh. Maybe now is the time for the WHL to actually take over.

>>What's Hockey?

the Democratic Party of sports leagues. I'm waiting for Bettman (press conf on now) to say, "When we do start play, we hope, in the 2005-06 season, we're going to Boston! And
New York! And Montreal! And Dallas! And Chicago! Then
we're going to Florida! And Carolina! And L.A.! And
Colorado! Yearrrggghh!"

I went to my first hockey game on Sunday. The Reading (PA) Royals. Had an absolute BLAST! Too bad for the hard-core fans in big cities, though.

Anyone got a picture of a bunny with a hockeypuck on it's head or perhaps the ever popular bunny with a pancake!

Since I haven't been following this, who's the bad guy: the NHL Owners or the NHL Players? (My default position in these ultra-rich labor disputes is to blame both sides.)

Both, at times. If you assume the owners are on the up-and-up with regards to finances, then they're probably as close as you can get to the "good guys" in this.

It's taken a looonngg time for baseball to recover from their greedy players strike. This is gonna hurt hockey bad.
Maybe they can pass out some 'roids, to put up some gaudy record-breaking numbers.

Most of the players are overseas. No doubt they were not about to break their contracts in other countries.

Agreed. I don't think it was in Bettman's best interests to salvage a partial season.

This is union-crushing at it's ugly worst.

And for what? So a few miserable owners can be contained by a salary cap? If they were all like Lou Lamoriello, the owners wouldn't have put themselves in this position in the first place.

But, the good-ole-boy club just didn't want to have slap the wrists of Glen Sather and tell him he was ruining the show for everybody else.

So much more fun to just blame, and then bust, the union.

I hate 'basketball bettman'.
