I know they're out of touch and desperate, which is why this apparent sympathy ploy is doomed to fail. The Iranian people (the target audience for this story) are the ones the ayatollahs need to get on board. I don't think that will happen. The people will either see through the charade, or they'll blame their leaders for incompetently provoking the U.S. What they won't do is rally around their government.

Reactions outside the country will be mixed, but either way, it will show Iran to be increasingly desperate.

Tell it to the Mullahs. Maybe it was an accident they blew out of all proportion into a supposed attack on them, because they are paranoid. All I said was I would not assume this was an attack by us or Israel, just on Iran's word. I come nearer believing they were faking it than I would believing they were being attacked, just on their word and the description of the incident.
