For how man years now have we been hearing that the Clinton scandal was all about Republicans's obsession with sex to the exclusion of The Issues? In such partisan cases, all it takes is one event like this to end, for good, any chance of either side saying anyone's sex life is off limits. Before it was just sex lives--Clinton's, Bush's--either party's politicians are game. Now it's at the level of reporters.
Kurtz and his peeps can whine all they want the Gannon "isn't a real reporter" and "he perpetuated the story by claiming" whatever, but all he's doing is giving ammo to anyone who wants to smear Helen Thomas, Maureen Dowd, Eson Jordan or Hey! Howard Kurtz. And it doesn't matter if it has anything to do with their work, because the only reason we know about Gannon's sex life is because, well, lefty bloggers brought it up. His being gay or straight had nothing to do with his question at the White House press briefing.
Enjoy this while you can, Howard and company. You took out a very low-level right-wing journalist; we already tanked Rather and Jordon. Now we've got a whole new angle if we want to, because you said it was legitimate. Nice going!
I agree with you ...the culture war just went up a notch (maybe 2)
Well put.
That is not a road they want to go down
Those fools just opened up a whole can of worms
Remember when David Brock "switched side" and started attacking conservatives? Didn't he also come out of the closet then? And didn't he become a hero because of it?
