It certainly is encouraging to know that not only are there young Republicans in our state but that they are willing to stand up and be counted. Way to go!
Yeah, maybe one of these days, Democrats will cease to have a lock on all the state offices.

The Union County Young Republicans are the latest group to publicly criticize the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the N.C. Legislature for considering the Monroe Bypass, or Monroe Connector, as a toll road.
"We find it troubling that the citizens of Union County have paid their fair share of taxes, only to be told that the money isn¹t there to build the road," said club chairman Nick Polyzos. "We know where the money has gone, but we would like to have the appropriate officials tell the people where it is and why it is not here being invested in Union County roads."
Representatives from the Mecklenburg-Union Metropolitan Planning Organization (MUMPO) recently held a town-hall meeting regarding roads in the area and much of the discussion was centered around the future of the Monroe Bypass.
Timothy Gibbs, Charlotte transit planning manager, informed the group at the meeting that planning staff felt the road would come sooner if it was a toll road.
The county's DOT representative Larry Helms has also echoed that sentiment saying the toll road would speed up the process by several years.
Despite the rationale that sooner is better than later, or even never, several current and former legislators are crying foul.
"In the past it seems some have been willing to look the other way when their neighbors were being robbed, whether they thought it didn¹t affect them or because they thought the robbers were friends of theirs doesn't really matter. This must end if we want improvement," stated former N.C.
Sen. Fern Shubert in a letter to the Young Republicans.
Shubert, who has been extremely critical of the lack of adequate road funding in Union County and has provided documentation that Union County ranked last in the state with regards to per person funding in road money.
N.C. Rep. Curtis Blackwood is also intrigued as to why Union County is being is being forced into a toll road.
"I am in full support of a state funded bypass in Union County", Blackwood said. "I do ask (President Pro Tem of the Senate) Basnight if he would be willing to have supported a toll road in his region of the state, as well?"
Polyzos added that the Young Republicans are receiving information back from Raleigh as to where tax dollars actually go and that information will be available on the Young Republican's Internet site at www.ucyr.com.
"I think it¹s a shame that we are the fastest growing county in the state- third fastest in the country - and we are dead last when it comes to interstate quality roads."
Liberals spent all of the tax dollars. That's where it went.
