but that stuff happens in EVERY big city....I grew up in the Bay Area and worked at Charles Schwab right there on Montgomery. I have never been accosted there day or night and in fact, I've lived in San Diego for 5 years and was hit on my gay men many more times than in SF.....but you do have a point about the homeless bums who pan handle...that is disgusting.......got confirmed at Grace Cathedral..never personally saw any problems in that area.....too many tourists usually
wow,......I"ve never had problems in the city...where in Walnut Creek are you?.....I live in Antioch now but lived in Walnut Creek for several years......still work out at the Pinnacle Fitness near the Post Office on Broadway. Many people don't know that Walnut Creek has about the finest restaurants outside of SF in many areas.....sorry you feel terrorized in the city.....lived here most of my life except for 10 years and have had nothing but fun in SF, even walking alone on Market near the Embarcadero at night
My question is - what is the city going to do about the reduced revenue from the businesses which will be affected by this "toll" and the reduced traffic.
Then you've missed the best things about SF. I lived there off and on for 4-6 weeks at a time during the 70's while training for fed gov work. I was constantly accosted by homeless people, hit on by gays and transvestites, and was standing about 100 feet away from a Weatherman bomb when it went off in a gov't building at 1:00 AM. And all this while being a white guy (still white, but you know what I mean) when the Zebra killers were on the loose. Talk about fun!! You just haven't lived.
yes exactly........I never defend the politics of SF or the Boxer's and Pelosi's of the world but I get in arguments all the time with out of staters who have no clue....mostly from Texas. It is a beautiful city and like you said, for the most part you wouldn't even know you are in a lib city unless in the Castro of Civic Center.......too bad it get's such bad press that most have no clue as to the great attraction it is........
What about signing out a Taser to you, that you could use to shoot aggressive panhandlers?
Great. More ways for SF to take your money. Granted, SF does have a ton of traffic, and from my experience, driving in SF is not fun (my sister works in SF. She uses BART to get there). Still, that doesn't mean there should be a toll to drive. I mean, what if you live in SF and own a car (like my uncles)? Also, I have an uncle that owns a car shop. What about his business?
If this passes, looks like we might have to skip cousins who live in SF when the annual Christmas Party (when they host it) when come around. Pay for all those gifts, and then hit by a toll in SF for driving to their house. Woohoo.
Since they started building all those Asian mallish type development in San Jose/Cupertino/Milpitas area, we rarely go to the City anymore. Still, with the few times that I have been to the City, my experience haven't been that bad. The worse might have been that one time when my family and I went to see the musical "Miss Saigon" where, in the parking garage near City Hall (wonderful looking building BTW), there were two homeless people making out in the stairs (they might be doing something else too, but I don't want to go there). Other then that, I had a wonderful in the City.
Still, I do believe the politics in the city stink (and sadly, so does the streets due to the homeless problem that, according to Gavin, has been reduced). But otherwise, it is a great city.
Aha, it is indeed a never-ending cycle. Local radio is already reporting leaks and rumors that this tax is suddenly being floated because polls already conducted by the city on the notorious 17c-per-bag grocery "fee" will make the majority of people drive out of their way to supermarkets outside the SF city limits.
But, you say, if nobody would be using and littering those grocery bags in SF, then that solves their stated problem of having to pay for recycling &c, and they wouldn't need this new tax, eh? Oops, maybe, just maybe, they were not entirely honest and accurate with their stated reason for the bag tax, eh?
Funny. It appears that San Franciscians ARE getting tired of all the tax. They recently voted down the other taxes that Gavin (the 'centrist' mayor) put on the ballot. Now, the grocery bag tax, well, heres a tax that DOES HURT THE POOR (after all, who is hurt by a 17 cent tax fee more? Rich who could afford it, or the poor, who can't? IDIOTS!)! Too bad they keep electing the tax increasers though.
Absolutely! Especially with an extra large clip, flash suppressor, and any other scary looking attachment that does little else besides scare bed-wetting liberals. Although fear tends to sour the taste of their meat.
Well, the advantage of the .50 cal sniper rifle is that they would have no opportunity to register any fear. It would be over before they heard the shot. But of course, given the sheer distance from our perch to the point-of-contact, opportunists will have ample time to bag our prey and make off with it. We'll have to go in packs so our spotters/retrievers can take care of the gutting, cleaning, dressing, and transporting of the trophy carcass before any glad-handers grab it and run off. Off course, we'll need an SUV nearby to throw it in and carry our equipment, so I'm recommending a camoflauged Humvee covered in "Goldwater/Reagan/Bush: In your heart, you known they're right!" bumper stickers with gun racks visibly adorning the rear and side windows.
Oops, forgot: Do you think Ted Nugent would have any interest in developing this as a reality show?
