Bush appealing to young voters on Social Security reform

President Bush is selling his Social Security (search) reform plan to young Americans, hoping their enthusiasm can help convince lawmakers to push through landmark policy change. But the payoff could also mean more young Republican voters, say political observers.

"I think [Republicans] are genuinely hoping to appeal and attract young people, not just on the Social Security issue, but in the long term. They see the young people as the lynchpin for creating a conservative New Deal (search)," said Hans Riemer, director of the Washington, D.C., field office for Rock the Vote (search), the national youth-oriented voter education campaign.

"They think they can lock in people for a long time to come," Riemer added.

That would be hilarious if the Republicans stole votes away from young voters -- commonly thought of as mostly DemocRATs -- by convincing them of Social Security reform -- something the DemocRATs hate! Mwu ha ha ha ha!!!

Actually it would be sweet reality to see young people recover from their brainwashings in liberal academia, to see the light of reality, and put the socialists in the trashcan of time. Young folks need to wake up and start thinking about the future, something the libs have deliberately left out of the "teaching" process.

Mr. President, as a young voter, I can honestly say that the only "reform" to Social Security which would "appeal" to me would be the return of the program to 'optional' participation, as it was sold to the American people by that socialist, FDR. I'll even let you keep the money that's been taken from me thus far so long as I'm never again forced by my govrnment to contribute to the program. Thanks.

President Bush is selling his Social Security (search) reform plan to young Americans,

Well no kidding. That's because everyone under 35 knows that the boomers are about to bleed the pot dry and we are paying for nothing.

True. I have no illusions that I'll see a penny of the tax I pay now. I considered it a loss.

He would also be appealing to older Americans if not for the lying scoundrels at AARP and in the media.

I know what you mean. If I had my Gross instead of my Net, I would be living large.

I'd be SAVING large ... for my retirement. And making out a whole lot better than whatever I may happen to get from SS.

Young folks are smelling the coffee on this one. And, it will lead to a general awakening to the many other lies of the left. Wake up, America!

I am older. So is everyone I know. We are all in favor of the SS reform. None of us belong to AARP.

I think AARP may be inflating their membership numbers. They begin sending out membership cards when people turn 50. The hook is a bunch of so-called *discounts* and the rest is advertisements for car/home/life insurance. Their magazine is political advocacy. They keep sending stuff even if you don't join.

BTW, the same discounts and insurance is available thru AAA and many places will simply ask you if you belong to AAA when you go to pay a resturant tab or a hotel bill.

Someone needs to investigate the true membership numbers at AARP.

Perhaps an audit is in order?

Anyone with a 401k can do the math and know they'd be far better off with Bush's plan than "traditional" Social Security.
