"How can Southerners give up delicious staples fried chicken, fried seafood, fried green tomatoes and cornbread slathered in butter?"
I've found leaving the region to be helpful.
But, I can't get a decent meal out here.
I miss my beloved South...especially the food.
No gravy?
When my wife and I took a trip down there in November, I couldn't get enough red beans and rice. Throw in a weekend-long party with every Southern food imaginable--along with endzone seats to the LSU-Ole Miss game--and I was in heaven!
I haven't had a decent chicken fried steak since I left Texas.

Me too! These folks in Colorado don't know about barbecue. They advertise "real southern barbecue" but it ain't even close.
I actually had a decent meal in Yuma, AZ, the other night. Decent fried chicken, good green-bean casserole, carrots, greens....not half bad....Golden Corral if you can imagine that.
