He said that Mr. Jordan cared deeply about the reporters he had sent into battle and was "haunted by the fact that not all of them came back."

Nice try at spin, but, quite frankly, who do you think you are fooling? Jordan has repeated his anti-American military bullcrap to whoever would listen.

Mr. Abovitz, who started it all, said he hoped bloggers could develop loftier goals than destroying people's careers. "If you're going to do this open-source journalism, it should have a higher purpose," he said. "At times it did seem like an angry mob, and an angry mob using high technology, that's not good."

It's not like this is the first time that Jordan had been caught in a very unethical situation, dude. And there is a very simple solution - don't report anything or don't state an incindiary opinion without being able to back it up.

It is truly amazing that holding someone to the standards of their profession is now the province of a lynch mob.

He said he was troubled by the attacks on Mr. Jordan and said that his resignation was a mark of the increasing degree to which the news media were being drawn into the nation's culture wars.

For cryin' out loud, the news media has been landing uncontested punch after uncontested punch in the culture war for friggin' decades! They have worked tirelessly to undermine basic American institutions and have mercilessly savaged conservatives with lie after lie after lie. But now that we can fight back, draw out the lies and draw blood, suddenly it's the poor, poor widdle innocent reporters who are being victimized.

Agreed. So perhaps the pressure should be kept on until CNN and/or Davos releases the tape!

However, I think a few heads do need to roll before the old media will come to grips with the fact that they are being watched and will be held accountable for their actions. If they engage in fraud (Jayson Blair, Dan Rather), baselessly attack anyone, especially the U.S. military (Dan Rather again, Eason Jordon [allegedly]), or otherwise behave in a non-ethical manner, they will be exposed.

The New York Times has just turned Steve Lovelady, Managing Editor of the Columbia Journalism Review from a slanderer into a libelist. His comment about us being "slavering morons" and a "lynch mob" is now in print.

Here's a thread for the discussion of the facts that Lovelady favors slander and libel, doesn't do his homework, doesn't understand that Jordan should have been filed, and in his bias, does not understand the blogosphere, either.

While over the years Mr. Jordan had helped vault CNN to some of its most celebrated triumphs - it was largely through his diplomatic efforts that CNN was able to broadcast the first live footage from the first Gulf War, in 1991 - he also drew criticism. In one case, he wrote an article for the Op-Ed page of The New York Times in April 2003, saying that CNN had essentially suppressed news of brutalities so the network could maintain access and protect its people in Iraq.

My, how delicately the NYT phrases all this.

Nonsense!! Blogs had nothing to do with it! Eason didn't quit because of what he said or the bloggers response! These media lefties have no regard for the truth only the agenda they hope to promote.

Eason has just moved on to something he's been considering for a long time. This event made a convenient departure point, that's all. He has lied for so long that he can't differentiate the truth. His arrogance and press credential allows him to say whatever he wants and we have to accept as factual.

No, he'll surface in the next couple of weeks with something that he was working on when he voiced his last set of lies. Now he is a martyr, however, and his next career will use his mendacity even better.

By the way, Ms. Seelye, you forgot to mention the third high-ranking MSM executive who was brought down by the internet in recent years. Too close to home, maybe?
