It could be Olesker but if it gets out, and it looks like it will, then it would only diminish whatever remaining credibility he has left.

I think the Sun is letting the Post take the lead on this to distance themselves from any dirty tricks due to the now settled court case with the governor's office.

Setting aside the Atlantic article it seems the person who could gain the most from the rumors, which are now being discussed by the Sun, is Doug Duncan. He's the likely candidate opposite O'Malley for the democrat primary.

It stands to reason that Duncan, or his people, would approach the Post due to its coverage of Montgomery County as a suburb of DC. He could get more traction from them than he could from the Sun as the Sun is clearly endorsing O'Malley as it did in the last election for mayor.

I look at it the same way police would investigate a murder. The key words are motive, opportunity, and a willingness to carry it out. He may not be the one, it could be Duncan but it should be clear the list is short, the list of accomplices to the act may be larger just because some people are loyal to the cause no matter how callus it may cause them to act. Maryland politics is ripe with dirty deeds and it always has been. This incident is rather low on the dirty trick scale though but that is not what is important, what is important is how the media is involved and the ethics it breaches. The MSM is losing credibility everyday and as they do they become more desperate to maintain power. They do not like having a Republican Governor in a 2:1 Democratic state who is trying to undue the damage Democrats have done over many years. Whoever is involved has a stake in what is going on to risk so much.
