It's important to always remember that stuff like this is a reflection of the official position of, in this case, the Saudi government. With a tightly controlled media, nothing gets out over the airwaves or in print that isn't approved and serves as an extension of Government policy.
This isn't equivalent at all to some nutcase blathering and bloviating on Art Bell's show....this is the voice of the Saudi government, and we laugh it off at our peril.
Oh I wouldn't be that generous. I had one of Calypso Louie's boys tell me that airplanes can't fly over Mecca because there is no gravity there. That was one of many gems.
