In my Bible, Jesus had sympathy for those who were considered sinners, unclean, and demon-possessed. He healed them and forgave their sins.
Jesus seems to have saved his contempt for those who were contemptuous of the "sinners" - the scribes and Pharisees who felt they were much more righteous than others.
Today, some of those who claim to be acting in Jesus' name seem to act more like the scribes and Pharisees, IMO.
It's probably a big misunderstanding on my part though, isn't it?
Jesus also went around telling people to repent for the kingdom was at hand. There is a reason he told people to repent. You can love the sinner all you want, but if they don't repent of abominable behavior and change their ways they won't get in.
